Richard Caplan
Associate Principal
Mr. Caplan came to STL Architects in 2004. As Associate Principal at STL, Richard heads up the firm’s Code Compliance and Review efforts, including the municipal code review program for the City of Chicago Department of Construction and Permits. STL Architects is one of the few firms contractually qualified to review permits for the City of Chicago, Department of Construction and Permits.
Mr. Caplan has 30 years of experience on public and private projects of all types and sizes. He spent two years at the Chicago architecture firm Skidmore Owings and Merrill, then moved to Lohan Associates, where he subsequently worked for 17 years. In 1996, Richard joined Northeastern Illinois University, where, as Senior Architect, he was responsible for a range of renovation and new construction projects including the design and implementation of the University’s Technology Enhanced Classrooms.
Richard received a 1994 GSA design award for the Everett McKinely Dirksen Courthouse Expansion project in Chicago.
