No longer just a storehouse of books, the new library is a link to the vast networks of information that drive modern society. This proposal presents a great meeting house for the contemporary people of Stockholm, a flexible public space offering information as its main attraction. This proposal expresses a bold solution, creating a dialogue with Asplund’s own work about how the fundamental nature of the “library” has changed, offering new kinds of interaction with information while respecting the critical ideas that make the original library a masterpiece. The form of this new architecture, its relationship to the ancient hillside, to the inspiring forms from Asplund’s drafting table, and to the original vision for the complex express an admiration for one of the founder’s of Modernism and the ideas that compelled him.
