STL’s entry for the expansion of the QMA competition proposed a museum based on the spatial quality and conceptual intensity obtained through the visual superimposition of art. Visual layering, multiplicity of viewpoints and circulatory patterns allow for diverse perceptions of each work of art. Moreover, by means of transparencies the conventional enjoyment of the single, isolated work of art is enriched by the more complex, global experience of the perception of all art work as a whole.
Art is mainly displayed within twenty-four 20’×20’×90’ glass exhibitors. The geometric simplicity contrasts with the complex visual perception of the art objects. Within each of the exhibitors a natural light filtering mechanism tames the light for optimum visual perception of the works. The slabs within the glass boxes are vertically flexible and can accommodate different types and scales of art objects.
