Single family residence project in Wilmette, Illinois. The design intent focused on separating the public realm from the private in order to provide a retreat for the family from the hyperactive outside world. The project also proposed to maintain the simple but stately original house built in 1920 while projecting an addition more in keeping with the client’s goals and our architectural method. The dialogue with the existing house is established through strong tectonic contrast. The project establishes three open spaces of different nature.
