Harris Bank: 55th and Cornell
- Location Chicago, Illinois
- Design 2003
- Construction 2004
- Client Harris Trust and Savings Bank
Urban branch bank facility located on the ground floor at the corner of a three story mixed-use building. Most of the existing perimeter is surrounded by storefront, which provided an unusual transparency and visual connection between the sidewalk and the space. Given the corner exposure an important focus point was defined. The newly defined red volume incorporates a 24 hour lobby and serves as the main entry to the bank. This volume is the first of a series of geometric shapes which organizes the existing irregular space articulating the different programmatic requirements and turning this intricate existing space in a fluid, structured and light permeable branch.
